Successfully navigating the social world can be one of the biggest challenges for a person with traits of Asperger's Syndrome.

Whereas others often acquire social skills naturally or by observing their peers, those with Asperger's Syndrome may need to be explicitly taught how to effectively relate with others.

There may be difficulty reading subtle social cues or understanding day-to-day social conventions. It can be frustrating when you don't really understand how to fit in. Emotions can overtake a person when they don't have the coping skills necessary to navigate our complex world.

Without these skills, people are at risk of being taken advantage of or being shunned and isolated. The effects on their self esteem are often devastating.

Developing social skills will also greatly influence the types of friends a person makes, or tries to make. Moving into adulthood without these skills puts a person at a real disadvantage in all areas of their life, including the workplace.

Fall Creek offers you the opportunity to experience success and growth in your social skills. We adjust our goals to fit you. Depending upon the current level of your social skills, we may start with basic skills such as using and interpreting facial expressions. Examples of more advanced social skills include the ability to maintain friendships through give and take conversation and activity sharing, accepting feedback appropriately, and assertively dealing with conflict.

To ensure individualized attention and customized approaches, we limit the size of each group.

For more information please call Dr. Moore at (916) 344-0900. Because we want to insure that the group is a good fit for you, we will require you to complete an informational questionnaire and attend a screening meeting prior to joining the group.

This group meets every Monday except the 3rd Monday of each month. We begin at 5:20 p.m. and meet until 6:15. The fee is $40 per week. We will make every effort to help you get reimbursment for this group if your insurance coverage provides this benefit.
